Install and set up
Install Screen Recorder, activate your license key, and give macOS the four permissions that the app needs to record.
Updated
What do you need?
- An Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later.
- A Screen Recorder license key. You get it by email, and on the page that opens after you pay.
Install the app
- Download Screen Recorder for Mac.
- Open the downloaded disk image.
- Drag Screen Recorder into the Applications folder.
- Open Screen Recorder from Applications.
Activate your license key
- Paste your license key into the field on the license page of the app.
- Click Activate.
One key works on up to 3 Macs. The app checks the key once a week, and it keeps working without an internet connection between checks. If you lost your key, use the license key page to get it again by email.
Give the permissions
Screen Recorder asks for four macOS permissions before the first recording. Each one has a clear job:
| Permission | Why the app needs it |
|---|---|
| Screen Recording | To record the screen. |
| Input Monitoring | To record the cursor and your clicks as separate data. Automatic zoom and the cursor settings need this. |
| Microphone | To record your voice, and to make captions from it. |
| Camera | To record your face as a separate camera track. |
If you turn off a permission by mistake, open System Settings > Privacy & Security, find the permission, and turn on Screen Recorder. macOS can ask you to open the app again after a change.
Make your first recording
