Screen Recorder docs
Privacy and network use
Where Screen Recorder keeps your recordings, what the app sends over the network, and what it never sends.
Updated
Your recordings
Screen Recorder saves every recording on your Mac, in Movies > Screen Recorder. The app does not upload recordings, camera video, audio, or captions. Captions run on your Mac.
What the app sends over the network
The app connects to the internet for four jobs only:
| Connection | What it sends | When |
|---|---|---|
| License server | Your license key, a hashed hardware ID, and the name of your Mac | When you activate, and once a week |
| Update feed | A request for the latest version number | At start and every 6 hours |
| Caption model | A download request | One time, before the first captions |
| Default background | A download request for the wallpaper image | When the editor opens |
The hardware ID is a SHA-256 hash, so the server never receives the raw ID of your Mac.
Analytics
The Screen Recorder app has no analytics and no crash reporting. This website uses PostHog to count visits and button clicks.
