Captions

Screen Recorder makes captions on your Mac with Whisper, an open speech recognition model. The audio does not leave your computer, and captions are free.

Automatic captions

When you record with a microphone, Screen Recorder transcribes your voice as soon as you stop. The editor opens with a Captions track above the recording.

Captions for another clip

Select an imported video or a sound clip, and choose Generate Captions. This also works on the screen clip of a recording.

The caption model

The first recording with a microphone downloads the caption model one time. It is about 60 MB. You can also download it from Settings before you record. After that, captions work without an internet connection.

Limits

• Captions are in English only.
• The captions are part of the exported video. Screen Recorder does not export a separate SRT file.
• Whisper can miss a word in a noisy room. Watch the captions once before you export.
